Teams

No teams required beforehand.  We'll form teams Friday evening.

Location and Directions

The Community Hackathon will begin in room 110 of the Hugh Dempster Pavilion at 6245 Agronomy Road on the UBC campus.  Click here for a detailed wayfinding map.

Note that parking is about $6 for every 24-hour period starting Friday at 6pm.  You can also pay-by-phone and you will receive a text message when it is about to expire.  Covered parkade parking (Thunderbird Parkade) allows you to pay when you leave.

Also note that while UBC Campus Security does patrol regularly, we cannot be responsible for your vehicle or any belongings left within.

Security

Speaking of security, please note that while UBC Campus Security patrols the campus around the clock, there will be no security personnel specifically assigned to our hackathon.  Please plan accordingly, and avoid leaving valuable stuff unattended.  If you have concerns about security, please let Kim or Kurt know.

Food

We will provide dinner on Friday, breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on
Sunday.  You will be responsible for snacks.  Bring your own, or purchase them from our Computer Science Students Society, who will visit the site at various times throughout the weekend.

What to bring?
  • any equipment you may require (desktop computer, laptop computer, printer, etc. -- we do not provide equipment)
  • comfortable clothes
  • shower essentials (there are some shower locations nearby if you want to freshen up -- your hacker colleagues will appreciate it)
  • snacks
  • sleeping gear if you plan to spend the night at the hackathon site (Note that this is a non-competitive event and you are not required to spend the full 48-hour period on site.  Some people will sleep at the site, and others will go home for the night.  But the idea is to be hacking in the same location as a community, so heading home and hacking alone is strongly discouraged and not in the spirit of the event.)

Liability Waiver

When you arrive for the hackathon, we'll ask you to sign a liability waiver as a prerequisite to participation in the hackathon.
